During previous seasons at RaceStation we used to run multiple leagues on the F1 game with various assist levels. However the 2019 version of the F1 game gives the opportunity to run a new type of league using the Formula 2 content on the game which means a proper Formula 2 league with the different cars and format as seen in real life (so long as we get the 2019 update in time!)
The plan for RaceStations F2 league is to use the same assists as before (ABS/braking assists are banned, but traction control driving line and automatic gearbox are allowed), and the damage will only be turned up to full, not simulation. Races will take place on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 with a 30 minute qualifying session, and the full feature race and reverse grid sprint race.
As this is a separate type of league, not just one where drivers are in F1 cars, drivers from the F1 league will be eligable to take part in the F2 league if they want to.
The season will follow the real F2 calendar starting in Bahrain on the 18th September. The F2 races will dovetail alongside the F1 races and most of the F2 and F1 races will take place on the same track during the same week, the main exception being Abu Dhabi. Below is a full calendar for both leagues so you can see how it will work out
Another change to this league will see a new points system. Firstly, pole position is worth 4 points! The points in race 1 are the same as in F1, but in the sprint race only the top 8 drivers are awarded points (15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1). Drivers can also earn 2 points for setting the fastest lap (but must finish the race to receive them).
Strategically it should be an interesting league. In the first race drivers will be required to make a pitstop and change tyre compounds, but in the sprint race the top 8 positions from race 1 are reversed and drivers are not required to make a pitstop but can do if they wish. This should make for some very exciting racing!
